Beginning March 12, meeting at the United Church of Lincoln!

What is Experiment with Light?

Experiment with Light is a Quaker practice which is based on early Friend’s discoveries. It was devised in 1996 by British Quaker and theologian Rex Ambler, who made a thorough study of early Quaker literature, primarily that of George Fox in order to discover how we may access the Light within all of us.

Why Experiment with Light?

Facing the truth of ourselves can have a profound effect, making possible the birth of a new, truer self. When you see yourself as you truly are,in the light, you will also experience the love, mercy and forgiveness of God.

“The first step to peace is to stand in the Light”-George Fox

The basic steps to Experiment with Light

Experiment with Light is basically a silent meditation time, with some verbal guidance.

Mind the Light: pay attention to what is going on inside of you
Open your heart to the truth.
Wait in the Light: Be patient, let the Light show you what is really going on.
Submit: accept & welcome the information, images, insights that may come.Allow them to show the truth.

Experiment with Light can be practiced alone, but there is a great benefit to doing it in a group setting. “Trust grows as the group learns to share it’s experiences openly. Early Friends found this experience of opening to the Light in groups led to great love between them and enabled them to support each other unconditionally during times of great hardship.” A Light group can have a profound effect, nourishing and deepening the spiritual life of the participants and their church community or meeting
