Join in the growing Mindfulness Movement for Mental Fitness and Health with
Insight Meditation (Vipassana)

Sundays, 5:30 to 6:45 pm (by donation)
Starts March 2, 2014!

Come and sit meditation with fellow meditation practitioner, Jari Chevalier. She will play a favorite curated dharma talk or selected segments by inspiring recognized teachers in the Thai and Burmese Forest Traditions of Buddhism.

Insight Meditation is a mind science and stress-reduction practice that teaches us to live fully in every moment, bringing clarity, health, integrity and wisdom to our lives.

The focus of these evenings will be non-religious, geared to tuning in, focusing the mind, relaxing into stillness; and releasing stressful tendencies and patterns of thought.

Jari will provide basic breath-focus meditation instructions and answer beginner’s questions about sitting posture, staying with the breath, and making the most of your practice.

She will hold the space for a shared 45-minute sitting following the talk.

This meditation gathering is offered on a donation basis and is open to both VSC residents/staff and local community members. Help us create our “Sangha,” people dedicated to exploring the full range of benefits of mindfulness and insight.

Jari Chevalier began meditation practice in the summer of 1988 with a 10-day silent retreat at Insight Meditation Society led by IMS founders Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg. From that first exposure to meditation practice, she experienced a profound sense of relief and a deepening awaress. Insight meditation has informed all her work as an artist, writer and educator. Since Winter 2010, Jari has spent ten months in silent retreat at the IMS Forest Refuge and has been guided in her practice by such luminaries as Ajahn Sucitto, Rodney Smith, Carol Wilson, Larry Rosenberg and Joseph Goldstein. She has studied Buddhist thought at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies and the Sati Center for Buddhist Studies.
