The Hungry Heart explores the world of prescription drug addiction through the intimate world of St. Alban’s Pediatrician Fred Holmes who works with patients struggling with this disease. In addition, the film interviews a number of older addicts who talk about their recovery process juxtaposed against Fred’s patients. The film provides an intimate look at the often hidden world of addiction and recovery and reveals the many challenges that people face in confronting a relentless disease.
Community forums will be held the following week to share concerns and discuss ideas for local solutions.
Tickets will also be available at Turning Point of Franklin County at no cost to residents currently in recovery or in need of support dealing with addiction. Turning Point of Franklin County is a community center for people in recovery from alcohol and substance abuse, addiction and addictive behaviors. Located at 182 Lake Street in St. Albans, the Turning Point provides a safe, substance-free environment populated by people in recovery who offer peer support at no cost.
Additional showings of the film will be in Enosburg, Swanton and Richford. Dates and locations to be announced.
