Plans to Ship High Level Nuclear Waste Across State

Past event
Sep 18, 2018, 6 to 8 PM

The age of nuclear energy has become the age of NUCLEAR WASTE. We shut down Vermont Yankee four years ago, but decommissioning issues still remain, as well as the unresolved question of long-term storage (for centuries, at least!) of High Level Nuclear Waste (HLNW). The industry now proposes to send Vermont Yankee's waste to west Texas. To alert the public, the Vermont Yankee Decommissioning Alliance is co-sponsoring an informational tour around New England, complete with a mock nuclear waste cask. The first stop is this Tuesday evening, Sept. 18th at the UU Church, 130 Main Street, Montpelier. Speakers from the US and Europe will discuss nuclear waste and environmental justice issues, as well as the government's refusal to deal with HLNW that is stranded at the VT Yankee site. Program starts at 6 PM, with a light meal--FREE--available from 5 PM.

Join with friends in exploring the need to create a scientifically sound, environmentally just solution for HLNW. Hear of current proposals by state & federal govt agencies, supported by the nuclear industry, to rush through "solutions" that do not meet these two essential criteria.
