Lost Nation Theater presents BECOMING DR. RUTH by Mark St. Germain
"My favorite animal is the turtle . . . to move it has to stick its neck out." That's the life philosophy of Dr. Ruth K. Westheimer in a nutshell.
BECOMING DR. RUTH is the heart-wrenching, humorous, and life-affirming story of young Karola Ruth Siegel who became "Dr. Ruth," the woman who became America's best know sex therapist and who helped revolutionize talk about sex and sexuality on radio and television. Now, at 90 years of age, she is still going strong! This one-woman show stars LNT's Maura O'Brien (Always Patsy Cline, Sylvia, Lost in Yonkers.)

Over the course of the one-act play, Dr. Ruth recounts her Jewish upbringing in 1930s Germany. After Kristallnacht, her parents sent her out of harm's way on a Kindertransport to Switzerland where she spent her teen years while most of her family perished in the Holocaust. Relocating to Palestine, she served the Haganah as a sniper and was wounded in an explosion. Depravity and suffering conditions kept coming but she persevered. As a single mother she set her sights on an education, coming to America, and to becoming a doctor. BECOMING DR. RUTH is a 90-minute journey full of lessons delivered with humor and a twinkling assurance that, with hope and optimism, everything will, indeed, be okay. Suitable for audiences 13+ of age.

In support of Lost Nation Theater's BECOMING DR. RUTH, the Vermont Holocaust Museum is providing portions of its exhibit "From Generation to Generation . . . We Are Here!" Holocaust history and three personal stories of survival will be on display at the theater throughout the production run. Lost Nation Theater is pleased to extend a $5 discount off general admission to all friends and supporters of the Vermont Holocaust Museum for most of the performances.
