The legendary Stowe Derby is coming right up (Feb 23) and if you have yet to participate in this legendary cross-country ski race, please join us for a RECON, a practice run down the 4 mile Toll Road off Mt. Mansfield!
Here is your chance to pre-ski... practice, observe and record the Stowe Derby DESCENT. Come and feel what it is like to tackle those turns on skinny skis, and hopefully figure out that it is not so bad, AND the most fun you'll ever have on skis! Ski alone or with the group. Get the inside scoop on how to get an edge over other racers, and locate and ascertain strategic features to dominate the thrilling downhill portion of this amazing ski race! Available to coach and offer tips will be Sam vonTrapp of Trapp Family Lodge (expert group) and Trina Hosmer (intermediate group), a member of the first
U.S. Women's Cross-Country Ski Team who trains, races and wins several gold medals in her age group in World Master's XC Ski Championships. The third group will be headed by David Hosmer, offering safe and smart tips for the less aggressive skiers.
All participants please meet at the base of the Look Out Chair at Stowe Mountain Resort (top of the stairs above the Base Lodge) at 1:30 pm SHARP. Cross-Country skis are welcome and participants are asked to stay on the Auto Toll Road. One run per participant. Dress WARM, this is a downhill practice! Plan your own transportation back to your car if you decide to ski past the parking lot at the Stowe Mtn Resort Touring Center.
This FREE event is possible because of the generosity of the Stowe Mountain Resort.
A $5 donation is suggested and will benefit to the Junior National Championships.
