Past event
Jul 16, 2018, 7 to 10 PM

Dear Neighbors,

This Monday, the City Council will convene its only meeting for the month of July. We will begin our evening at 6pm with a work session on contract negotiations with our unions. There is an expected executive session. The Council meeting will begin immediately after the work session.

The first item on our Council agenda is a resolution recognizing Deputy Fire Chief Robert Plante for completing the Executive Fire Officer Program. We will then hear an annual report from the Fire Commission and the Public Works Commission.

We have five items on our deliberative agenda. The first is a communication from the Mayor on the appointment of an Assistant City Attorney.

Our next item is a presentation from CEDO on the Community Sailing Center's annual report on their signature programs and community credits. One of the aspects of our lease agreement with the Sailing Center was that their programs provide a set amount of programs that directly benefitted Burlington residents with that set amount translated into dollars of programs that benefit the community. This is that annual report.

The third item is a presentation and resolution on a report from the Inclusionary Zoning Working Group. This group comprised of a variety of community stakeholders and city officials that have been working on our Inclusionary Zoning ordinance. The resolution continues the review process by referring the report to two Council committees and then to the Planning Commission if there are recommended changes after this next step.

The fourth resolution is a call to find common ground regarding the negotiations between UVMMC and the Nurses' Union.

The last item on our deliberative agenda is a resolution in support of Overdose Prevention Sites, low barrier buprenorphine and other evidence-based practices to reduce opioid overdoses and provide treatment and recovery for people struggling with opioid addiction. This resolution would support the exploration of an Overdose Prevention Site that would include a public process as well as some of the other harm reduction techniques that are proving to make a real difference in the lives of people in crisis.
