Join the League of Women Voters and Kellogg-Hubbard Library for the final discussion of its First Amendment series.

The Petition Clause of the First Amendment tells us that people have the right to appeal to government in favor of or against policies that affect them or in which they feel strongly. Moderator Cary Brown, Executive Director, Vermont Commission on Women, will discuss the Right to Petition with attorneys John Franco, Paul Gillies and Professor Peter Teachout.

Franco was Dean Corren's attorney in his fight against the Attorney General's claim that Corren violated Vermont's campaign finance law. Gillies represented a group of South Burlington residents who sued the school district in civil court, arguing that the school mascot "Rebel" name change should have been left to the voters of the city rather than the school board. Teachout is Professor of Constitutional Law at Vermont Law School.
