LCS Performance: We Have a Voice
LINCOLN, Vermont Thursday, May 10, 2017
The performance is May 10th @ 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm at The Lincoln Community School.
Lincoln Community School fifth and sixth graders will give two performances of the original production We Have a Voice on Thursday, May 10. The musical production is set in present day and 1910, is written by fifth and sixth grade students and focuses on how one man, Lewis Hine, along with the National Child Labor Committee, created public awareness to help end child labor in America. In 1938, Congress passed the Fair Labor Standards Act, which included new regulations on child labor.
Fifth and sixth grade students at Lincoln Community School spent this school year pondering the question: How have people throughout time created social change? We journeyed through rights and responsibilities of children, Vermont government, and the history of the Industrial Revolution and child labor in the United States. Students are currently working on their own positive change projects to make a difference in their own communities.
Through a grant from the Five Town Friends of the Arts and fundraising, performance artists and educators Grace Freeman and Helen Weston have directed this unique and heartfelt production. The dress rehearsal (open to those who would like to attend a day performance) is at 1:00pm on May 10. The evening performance is at 6:00 pm.
