Green Up Day May 5

Past event
May 5, 2018, 8 AM to 4 PM

OK Waterbury, let's do this.
Spring has sort if sprung and boy, there's plenty out there to clean up along the roadsides, in neighborhoods, near parks, etc.
Vermont Green Up Day is next Saturday, May 5, and volunteers are needed to get out there to help spruce up all around town.
Green-ing up is as easy as finding a spot to clean up and getting it done. There is an online signup to help coordinate efforts at https://tinyurl.com/WaterburyGreenUp2018. If you cannot access the website, contact me at the email or phone below.
Know that the signup is just a guide. If the spot you pick is already cleaned when you arrive - just find another spot. All trash is fair game on Green Up Day.

Here are the important details:
● BAGS: Available at the town offices, Waterbury Public Library and Sunflower Market on Rt. 100.
● DROP OFF LOCATIONS: On May 5, Green Up Day, drop-off spots will be the Town Garage on Guptil Road from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also Rodney's Rubbish behind Crossroads Deli from 8 a.m. to noon. Please don't leave filled bags along roadsides as there is no formal pickup service.
● METAL: Both drop-off locations will accept metal for free. In addition to metal found during Green Up, anyone can bring in scrap metal items for recycling. No propane tanks, please! Only Rodney will accept appliances with refrigerants inside for a $10 fee (air conditioners, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, etc.)
● TIRES: People may take used tires to Rodney's Rubbish to recycle for $4 each. Rims OK.
● REDEEMABLE bottles and cans: Please bag returnable 5- and 15-cent bottles and cans separately from trash wherever possible. A school group will collect, clean and redeem them. Drop off returnables at the Town Garage site.
* If you have a group that would like to take the bottles/cans to redeem, contact me before May 5. *
● PLEASE NO: Do not drop off household waste, hazardous waste, electronics or propane tanks.

GREEN UP TIPS
Green Up is fun to do with family, friends or co-workers.Think ahead before choosing a spot to clean up.
● Remember to dress appropriately for Green Up with gloves, boots, long pants to avoid ticks near tall grass or brush.
● Pick a location away from traffic if you have young children along. Neighborhoods, side streets, parks, trails are safe choices with kids.
● Be smart and watch out for trash that looks unusual, dangerous. Needles are a hazard and should be disposed of in trash (not recycling) in a sealed container. Report any sites that appear to have hazardous items. (OK to text or call 373-5878 on Green Up day.)
● There are some bright safety vests available to borrow. Stop by the Town Garage on Green Up day to pick up.
● You may Green Up before May 5 if conditions and your schedule allow. Know that the drop-off locations will only be available on May 5. If you Green Up early, either dispose of your bags with your own trash or hang onto them to drop off on Green Up Day.
● More information is online at greenupvermont.org and waterburyvt.com.
Thank you ahead of time to everyone who helps out. Waterbury always looks great after Green Up!
If you take photos while green-ing up, please share either with me via email or to the Green Up Vermont Facebook page. We love to see and hear about interesting finds on Green Up day.
