I recommend that North Hero voters who are considering taking an absentee ballot to vote on the upcoming school budget attend the Tuesday April 3rd 7:00 PM board meeting in the elementary school building. The board will, I expect, explain why we will see next year's school tax bills increase by some 32% even though "projected spending per equalized pupil is {only} 13.4% higher than spending for the current year." I recognize that most of this increase is inevitable; I am also of the opinion that there are some sensible ways to mitigate the increase without cutting programs for our youth. So, if you will not be able to come to the information meeting, come to this regular meeting of the board.
