SWAP THING: A New Comics Event in Essex
Inspired by the intimate comic book shows of the 1970s and 1980s, three local comic book fans are launching SWAP THING, a free, old-school comic book sales and swap event on March 25, 2018 at Memorial Hall in Essex, VT from 10:00am-4:00pm.
SWAP THING will feature dealers, collectors and fans from around the region buying, selling and trading old comics. "We wanted to hold an event like the comic shows we went to when we were kids," says event co-organizer, Andy Kolovos.
SWAP THING got its start through P2P: Panel to Panel (https://www.facebook.com/groups/273659919482413/), a comic book-focused Facebook group created by Essex resident, John Rovnak. Rovnak and Kolovos first launched SWAP THING in 2014, bringing together a group of local fans and collectors at Kolovos's home in Essex Junction to meet up and trade old comic books. "It was a total blast," says Kolovos, "Plus I got a lot of great stuff that day."
Recently they decided to open up SWAP THING to the general public, and drew local comic creator and collector, Michael Waggoner into the mix. The trio then made plans to launch the event in March.
The key to SWAP THING is affordability: the event is totally free to attend.
