MOVING BEYOND THE "TALK"
PTO Parent Information and Discussion Night - Tuesday March 27th 6-7:30pm in the TBPS Library
Has your Thatcher Brook student been asking questions about how their body is changing, what and when puberty will happen, how babies are made, and all the other "birds and bees" type questions? Have you struggled with how to have this type of conversation?
We are happy to be hosting Andrea Nicoletta, the Education Program Manager from Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, with her presentation Moving Beyond "the Talk - Tips and techniques parents can use every day to improve communication about sexuality. This workshop provides skills to empower parents as the primary sexuality educators of their children. We will include values, child development, what to talk about when, how to start the conversation, and how to respond to questions. Parents will leave with a resource list to guide them as they move beyond the cultural idea of one big sex talk to an ongoing conversation about sexuality that grows as their children do. This presentation was made possible by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Adolescent and School Health (CDC-DASH). Its contents are solely the responsibility of Vermont AOE and PPNNE and do not necessarily represent the official views of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
We will also have our own Nancy Robinson, Health Teacher for TBPS and CBMS for this important conversation. You will leave with parent resources and a better understanding of our district health curriculum covered at TBPS and CBMS.
