The NOFA-VT 2025 Winter Conference: Growing Together is Feb 15-16! The conference will take place at UVM in Burlington, VT. It will feature a keynote address from Dãnia Davy and Tim Gibbons, 40+ workshops on Saturday, "intensive" all-day workshops on Sunday, a children's conference, music, art, seed swap, and more community building activities. More info and registration (sliding scale): nofavt.org/conference
One of the Sunday intensives will be at Proctor Maple Research Center in Underhill - "Maple Sugaring in a Changing Environment."
This will be an immersive experience to learn about Vermont's beloved maple syrup industry. We will discuss the state of the industry and its future, modern production methods, and sap-only businesses. We will also discuss the environmental stewardship that ensures the future of maple sugaring, dive into the crucial relationship between maple sugaring and forest health, and provide some context for certifications, such as organic, bird-friendly and the VMSMA sugarhouse certification. The afternoon will include a guided tour through the working sugarbush and sugarhouse, where you'll, if we are lucky and the sap is flowing already, witness the maple sugaring process firsthand. We will conclude the day with a syrup tasting. Whether you're a sugar maker, homesteader or maple enthusiast, come taste, learn, and experience the sweetness of Vermont maple syrup!
