Leanne and I are performing two free shows for school-aged children and their parents at the Kellogg Hubbard library mid-day Saturday, as part of the Montpelier Frostival. We've missed our First Night gigs here, these shows have turned out to be much the same kind of thing. The two sets feature different stories. An eleven o'clock program is slightly younger-oriented, and features good old folk tales where the wolf is not the bad guy. At 12:30 we're performing one of our first duo tales, a Scandinavian/American version of East of the Sun, West of the Moon, "The White Bear." Both sets feature humor and heart, and have exciting moments but are not scary.
Here's the write-up from the Frostival booklet.
"With multiple award-winning albums, featured performances at top festivals across the country, rave reviews from across the world, and a career spanning over 30 years, Tim Jennings and Leanne Ponder are among the best folk storytellers working today. ˜
"Their compelling style of duo narration— a British storytelling journal called it “verbal jazz”— is both intricate and delightful. Their folktales are funny, touching and exciting; very entertaining yet deep as a dream. Harp and concertina music sets the mood, and increases the stories’ impact. Seven Days recently concluded, "Tim Jennings and Leanne Ponder are simply Vermont treasures and hearing their stories never grows old."
The couple will be performing two different shows. Stories may feature foolish wolves, magic pots, talking tigers, miraculous crones, impostors, saints and laughing rats. While both performances are aimed at school-aged children and their parents, the second show will be a bit more mature.
"Tim and Leanne are married and live in East Montpelier, with a little dog and a large orange cat."
