Beth Telford: Beth began studying the violin at the age of eight, in her late teens and early 20’s, Beth had her first introduction to the world of traditional fiddle music. She began to play at coffeehouses and dances throughout New England, and was twice invited to perform at the Eistedfod Festival in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Beth moved to Vermont in 1983, and soon began playing with the bands Cabin Fever, Northern Spy, the Fiddleheads and in various other duos and trios. However, wildlife study was dominant in her life at this point. A musical hiatus began when she moved to Boise, Idaho in 1989 to pursuer her master’s degree in Raptor Biology.
Returning to VT in 1996, Beth quickly resumed friendships with her musical pals, two of whom introduced her to the music of legendary Cape Breton fiddler Jerry Holland. She quickly realized that this was the style of music that she wanted to play. Since then, she has devoted her efforts to learning the Cape Breton style and passing it along to her scores of fiddle students. She struck up a friendship with Jerry in 2001 and studied and worked with him until his death in 2009. Beth continues to run a twice yearly Cape Breton fiddle and dance camp that she began with Jerry in 2002, and this summer will again collaborate with Laurie Hudson at Hitching Post Farm for the second annual Horse and Fiddle Camp. Since 2006, she has been performing regularly with guitarist and singer Jim Green.
Jim Green: Jim began playing guitar at the age of 14, studying classical guitar and playing in a folk duo with his brother. By age 16, the two were playing all around the central Vermont region. Jim went on to be a member of bluegrass band during later high school years and then a rock band which was his full time job for approximately 5 years. Jim’s reputation as a singer and guitar player started to grow, landing him some recording work. He was asked to sing on three tracks of Joe Cunningham’s cd, “Just Another Joe on the Street” (Shiretown Records). Rusty DeWees, aka “The Logger,” enlisted Jim to perform and record as a member of the “Fellers It was early summer 2006 when Beth Telford called Jim to accompany her. Unfamiliar with the genre, Jim wasn’t sure if it would be a good fit but soon found it was. Always eager to broaden his musical styles, he realized the great opportunity to explore a new style with such a proficient and knowledgeable player.
