SHHS PRESENTS THE HOMES AND BUSINESSES OF TRACY ROAD
Friday, March 2 at 7:00 at Folsom Educational Center.
The South Hero Historical Society will present, ”The Homes and Businesses of Tracy Road.” The present Tracy Road was previously Rte. 2. before it was redirected in the 70’s. It was a vital part of the South Hero business community. Over the years it has been home to a tavern, a post office, a doctor’s office, a creamery, a florist, a factory, a flower farm, a dairy farm, and a grocery store, among others.
We are happy to welcome Hobart Tracy, Ruby Buermann Willis, John Roy, and Malcolm Allen, who will relate their memories of the various buildings, as well as some history and folklore. Probably the oldest of the buildings is the Tracy House, built in the early 1800’s. Mr. Fletcher applied for a tavern license in 1811. There are stories of romance, jilting, and lawsuits, but you’ll have to attend the meeting to hear the details.
SHHS welcomes everyone to our meetings. You may enter by the door in the brick area of the school or the front school door.
