Join us THIS Sunday, January 21st from 6-9pm at Charlie-O'S World Famous (70 Main St, Montpelier) for a benefit concert to support clean water initiatives in Puerto Rico. Organized by Calais locals Connor Myers and myself (Liz Beatty-Owens) we invite you to join us for an evening of awesome music as we collect donations for such an important cause. Local musicians Django Koenig (6pm), Julia Kate Davis (7pm) and Harrison Myers and Forest Hanson of Papa's Porch AKA Forest and Fin (8pm) will be playing from 6-9pm.
Here is the specific cause we will be fundraising for:
After hurricane Maria decimated Puerto Rico in late September, the water crisis is still as urgent as ever.
A Vermonter by the name of Nate Deflavio was living in PR when Maria hit, and had to evacuate. Upon returning to the island post disaster, Nate realized he could help some of the islanders by providing a renewable source of drinking water.
Nate came up with a plan to raise $20,000, which will all go towards SOURCE Panels, which are a product that provides a completely off-grid and sustainable way of making clean drinking water out of just sunlight and air. He plans on putting these panels on fire-stations across Puerto Rico.
So far the project has been very successful, meeting the initial goal of $20,000. The fundraiser cap has been increased to $30,000 in an attempt to capitalize on this wonderful opportunity to provide a clean source of drinking water to struggling families.
With the amount of money raised so far, we can produce 140 liters of clean drinking water per day! This replaces 280 plastic water bottles per day! And over 100,000 water bottles per year! We can do better though!
Come enjoy a wonderful night of music at Charlie O'S! Let your enjoyment of live music benefit those in need!
