The Vermont Public Utilities Commission (PUC), formerly called the Public Service Board, is holding a joint public hearing in Bristol on Tuesday night to solicit comments from the public about two alleged Vermont Gas pipeline safety violations. Prior to the public hearing there will be an information session and presentations about each case.
The PUC has opened investigations into both alleged violations and will be carrying out trial-like proceedings at a later time. On Tuesday evening, the public will have 1) a chance to hear information about each of the safety issues from Vermont Gas and other parties; and 2) an opportunity to make comments, express concerns, and/or recommend questions or issues the PUC should include in its investigation of each case.
WHEN: TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 21 at 6 p.m. (information session begins at 6 p.m. and public hearing will follow at around 7:30 p.m.)
WHERE: MT ABRAHAM UNION HIGH SCHOOL, 220 Airport Road in BRISTOL
It's unfortunate that this event was scheduled right before Thanksgiving, but if you are interested in learning about pipeline safety issues that you might want to be aware of and/or if you have any concerns about the safety of the pipeline this will be a good opportunity to get more information and/or let the PUC know of any problems or concerns you have.
CASE # 17-3550-INV - BLASTING ACCIDENT IN MONKTON
CASE # 17-4630-INV - ALLEGED NON-COMPLIANCE WITH APPROVED PIPELINE BURIAL DEPTH
If you can't make it on Tuesday but want to file a public comment to help the PUC in its investigation of either case, or you would like to sign up to receive all of the case documents and notices you can do that here: https://epsb.vermont.gov/?q=node/89 in a few easy steps:
1) Search for the case number (cut and paste from above)
2) Go to Select Action at the top of the page, and using the arrows open the dropdown menu.
3) Select Add a Public Comment or Subscribe to This Case
4) You can also read case documents by selecting the appropriate tab in the middle of the page, and clicking on the little blue box to the far right of each row in the list.
You may be asked to create an account (login and password). The PUC clerk has advised that any member of the public can do this - don't worry if you get a message saying that you can establish an account if you have business before the PUC.
You can also send comments referencing the appropriate case number to: puc.clerk@vermont.gov
