Waterbury to hold Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Seniors

The Fifteenth Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the area’s elders and their families will be held on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2017 at the Waterbury Senior Center. The dinners are given at no charge as “a way for the community to say ‘Thanks’ to its elders for helping to make our communities the caring and supportive places that they are.”

Albert Caron, owner of the Waterbury Service Center and chief organizer of the event, started this event in 2003 and it now has become a holiday tradition in Waterbury. The dinner begins at noon, and everyone over the age of 60 can bring up to four family members who will also receive dinners at no charge.

There will be rides available to pick up those who are unable to drive to the Center. In addition, dinners will be delivered to seniors and their families who are unable to come to the Center.

Reservations for the dinners, take-outs, or to schedule a ride should be made by calling the Waterbury Senior Center at 244-1234. All requests must be received by Monday, November 20th.

All time to prepare the meal, cook, serve the food, decorate the dining room, and cleanup is done by volunteers. Most of the food is donated by suppliers and local stores. Businesses and individuals that would like to donate money or gifts for seniors may call Albert Caron at 244-7202 or Marge Gulyas 793-0879. We, fortunately, have enough volunteers again this year to help with all aspects of the dinner.
