Capital City Concerts presents The Music of J.S. Bach on Saturday, November 11 at 7:30PM at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier.
Acclaimed soprano Hyunah Yu returns with a stellar chamber ensemble including violinist Theodore Arm, cellist Edward Arron, pianist Jeewon Park, and flutist Karen Kevra. In addition to soprano arias from four different cantatas, the group will mix and match in chamber music of Bach, from solo works, to sonatas, and a trio sonata.
For many seasons Capital City Concerts assembled extraordinary musicians from Vermont and across the country under the direction of the late legendary Louis Moyse, a founder of the famed Marlboro Music Festival. This concert revives that tradition and welcomes back the soprano Hyunah Yu, whose star has risen quickly since appearing as a soloist in St. Matthew Passion with the New England Bach Festival in 1999, directed by Blanche Moyse. Since then, Ms. Yu has been an international prizewinner and finalist at numerous competitions including the Naumburg International Competition and Concert Artist Guild International competition. Recently the New York Times wrote, "Ms. Yu’s lyric soprano voice is light and youthful, with warmth and creamy richness."
Another highlight of the program will be the Cello Suite No. 1 in G major-BWV 1007 performed by Edward Arron, one of the great cellist of his generation.
