Sterling College has a variety of exciting events coming up and we'd like to invite you to join us!
Saturday, November 4th from 10am-11am, we will be hosting a Global Meditation for World Peace and Harmony in the Brown Library Reading Room. Led by faculty member Laura Bebee and will open and close with guided meditations, readings, and chants. There will be an opportunity to leave after the first 20 minutes. No experience is necessary. If you are new to meditation, please come early to learn some basic sitting postures and techniques.

He has sea kayaked from Alaska to Japan, among scores of other expeditions over the course of his life. Join him as he explores the Deep Wild and our communication with the animal denizens of wild places. You don't want to miss this!
Wednesday, November 15 from 6:30pm-8:30pm in the Brown Library Reading Room we'll be hosting a book discussion on David Fleming's book Surviving the Future: Culture, Carnival and Capital in the Aftermath of the Market Economy. You can request a free copy of the book by emailing schoolofthenewamericanfarmstead@sterlingcollege.edu so you can come prepared to dig into this important and fascinating text and make the most of our Surviving the Future Symposium happening on campus on 12/1.
Thursday, November 16 from 7pm-8pm we'll be hosting Pies for People, a benefit for the Hardwick Food Pantry, done in collaboration with the Center for an Agricultural Economy with donations from Pete's Greens and High Mowing Organic Seeds. Bring your rolling pin to Dunbar hall and help roll out dough. If you have questions, contact faculty member Allison Van Akkeren at avanakkeren@sterlingcollege.edu
Friday, December 1 from 7:15pm-9:00pm join the Surviving the Future Symposium in the 1958 Room in Simpson Hall. As the market economy continues to crumble under the weight of its own impossible need for perpetual growth, we should admit that for all its destructiveness, we will miss its essential simplicity, the comforts it delivers to many and the freedoms it underwrites. And as capitalism’s former largesse continues to shrink away, that future is becoming daily reality for ever more of us. Join our esteemed panelists Margo Baldwin, David Bollier, Peter Buffett, Chuck Collins and Matthew Derr as they dig into David Fleming's work.
