“From Expensive to Affordable: Vermont’s Health Care Future,” the 13th annual conference of the Vermont Alliance of Retired Americans, will be held Saturday, October 28, at the Montpelier Senior Activity Center beginning at 8:30 am with coffee and registration, followed by an update on Sen. Sanders’ Medicare for All national health insurance program legislation by Sheila Reed; an overview by Dr. Deb Richter of proposed legislation to provide Universal Publicly Financed Primary Care for All Vermonters, with Paul Cillo of Vermont’s Public Access Institute; and a panel addressing the prospects for achieving Primary Care for All in 2018, including State Senator Debbie Ingram, Director of Vermont Interfaith Action; Jill Charbonneau, President of the Vermont AFL-CIO; James Haslam, Director of Rights and Democracy; and Peter Youngbaer, Director of the People’s Health & Wellness Clinic.
Over lunch, participants will discuss strategies for building support for Primary Care for All led by John Poeton, then view the Canadian/American film “The Health Care Movie” followed by discussion. The conference ends at 2 pm. Registration for the conference, including morning coffee and VARA membership, is $15 ($20 for two). Lunch is $10.
