Conversation About Freedom of Assembly

Past event
Oct 12, 2017, 7 PM

Join the League of Women Voters at Kellogg-Hubbard Library, 135 Main Street, Montpelier, for a discussion on the First Amendment Freedom of Assembly.

The panel, moderated by David Moats, author and Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial writer at the Rutland Herald, is composed of Police Chief Tony Facos (Montpelier), James Haslam, founder of Rights & Democracy, and
Chloe White, ACLU of Vermont Policy Director. They will discuss the individual right of people to come together and collectively express, promote, pursue, and defend their ideas.

As Americans vigorously exercise their right to free assembly, states have assaulted the practice of assembly by narrowing their interpretation of protections for this form of expression.

This is the second in a series of discussions on the First Amendment by the League of Women Voters and Kellogg-Hubbard Library . Future discussions will address the freedoms of speech, religion, and petitioning the government. Join us for this important discussion on freedom of assembly.
