Just wanted to let you know about an exciting upcoming series of community events. Food for Thought is a community-wide pot-luck and issue lecture and discussion series to which all are invited free of charge. Each potluck in the series will include a half-hour presentation by an expert on an interesting topic followed by questions and group discussion. Here are the details of the first gathering:
Topic: Human Genetic Engineering: Dreams & Nightmares -- From Where Have We Come, and Where Are We Now?
Guest Lecturer & Facilitator: Robert S. Wildin, MD, Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine & Pediatrics, UVM
In this first of three forums, we shall explore the path we've traveled so far in the science of genetic engineering and the lessons we’ve learned as it relates to human genetic engineering.
When: Sept 12th, 6:00pm, MMU School Library (It is a potluck, so please bring a dish to share if you can)
This lecture series is being coordinated by teachers Will Wright and Jennifer Adkisson at MMU and Rev. Arnold Thomas of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Jericho. Rev. Thomas coordinated events like this when he was pastor at Riverside Church in New York City. We are thrilled that he is bringing the concept here to Vermont, and we are fortunate that they will take place right here in our local school. Mark your calendar for what should be an informative and lively discussion!
