The Neave Trio from NYC will perform on Saturday, Aug. 26 at 7:30pm at United Community Church at South (formerly South Congregational Church), 446 Main Street in St. Johnsbury. Tickets are $20 and all proceeds will benefit Catamount Arts' new EPIC Music program, which provides free violin instruction and instruments to students at St. Johnsbury School.

EPIC Music is inspired by El Sistema (“The System”), a social change and youth development program that provides intensive music instruction to young people. It was developed in Caracas, Venezuela in 1975 by José Antonio Abreu, an orchestra conductor, pianist, economist, educator, activist, and politician. El Sistema-inspired programs are now found in 55 countries around the world.

EPIC Music, which kicked off in July with a two week intensive summer camp, is open to any child with the enthusiasm and commitment to learn. The program offers free instruments, free intense musical instruction, and significant experience working in ensembles. The two most important aspects of El Sistema-style programs are inclusivity for all students, and joy in making music. EPIC Music will be offered four days per week after school during the school year at St. Johnsbury School.

One of the finest emerging young chamber ensembles, the Neave Trio, based in New York City, has been enjoying tremendous international success on concert series and at festivals worldwide. The Trio has performed all over the US, in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Boston’s Jordan Hall, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center/La Jolla Music Society, Rockport Chamber Music Festival (as their “Rising Star” Ensemble),and the Los Angeles Music Guild. The Trio works regularly with living composers, and gave the World Premiere of "Klee Musings", a new piano trio written for the Neave Trio by acclaimed composer Augusta Read Thomas. The Neave Trio has been been broadcast on radio stations across the US and abroad, with notable live broadcasts on such stations as WGBH Radio (Boston) WXXI and WNYC Radio (New York) and as featured artists on the WQXR Radio (NYC) McGraw-Hill Financial Young Artists Showcase.
