African Drumming
Dates: August 7, 14, 21, 28
Time: 6:30pm – 8:00pm
Led by Gary Meitrott
Enter the evocative world of ethnic hand percussion where you create rhythmic alchemy with your hands. Take perhaps the simplest instrument, the drum and by definition turn it into one of the most complex instruments by learning to play in an ethnic style. It will take patience, and concentration to enter into another culture’s way of being. Gary Meitrott, a student of ethnic styles of percussion for over 30 years will be your impassioned guide to studying the West African djembe. Come enjoy laugh and be stretched to learn the technique, rhythms, and most importantly the feeling of creating a harmonic community making beautiful music together.
Location: Stone Valley Arts at Fox Hill (145 E. Main Street, Poultney)
Cost: $75 (Full or partial SCHOLARHIPS available) Drum for class will be provided, no experience necessary. Please sign up now at Stonevalleyarts.org.
