Bryant Garrow and Elly Moriarty will present the South Champlain Historical Ecology Project which began in 2015 to investigate prehistoric Native American sites around the southern end of Lake Champlain.
The current investigation is located at The Galick Site in West Haven,Vermont which is part of The Nature Conservancy's Helen W. Buckner Preserve. The preserve rests on 1,500 acres of undeveloped shoreline, and for 10,000 years this area has served as a safe haven for people, flora and fauna of the area. The area is the largest and most ecologically diverse natural place managed by The Nature Conservancy in Vermont, and is home to 11 uncommon or rare-in Vermont animal species, 18 species of rare or uncommon plants and 10 distinct plant community types.
Slide show and a variety of artifacts from the site will be on display.
