Last Houghtonanny of '13, Monday, Nov. 18, 7 PM, Art House on CC

Past event
Nov 18, 2013, 7 to 8:30 PM

Here's a reminder that Monday evening, Monday, November 18, will be our next "Houghtonanny" session, at 7 pm, at the Art House on the Common. We'd be pleased to welcome you to what we intend to be a joyful group singing experience. If you've got a copy of Rise Up Singing!, bring it along; otherwise I've got a number of copies I can lend out. And if you know anyone not on this list who might be interested, pass it along!

This will be the last Houghtonanny of 2013; thanks to all of you who have come and supported it. We'll begin again in the Spring, when we start to have a little more sunshine, and the temperatures have moderated somewhat. I'll be sure to give a 'heads up' well ahead of time.
Thanks, Don Houghton

Houghtonanny: it's for singing around a campfire (without the campfire!); for ordinary folks, with ordinary voices, who like to get together and sing; for folks who play an instrument, who might not have played for a while and would welcome a chance to 'get back into it'. It's a chance to meet new friends, learn new songs, and experience the joy of making music together.

“Once upon a time, wasn’t singing a part of everyday life as much as talking, physical exercise, and religion? Our distant ancestors, wherever they were in this world, sang while pounding grain, paddling canoes, or walking long journeys. Can we begin to make our lives once more all of a piece? Finding the right songs and singing them over and over is a way to start. And when one person taps out a beat, while another leads into the melody, or when three people discover a harmony they never knew existed, or a crowd joins in on a chorus as though to raise the ceiling a few feet higher, then they also know there is hope for the world.” -- Pete Seeger
