The Spring Household Hazardous Waste Collection event will be held at Harwood Union High School in Duxbury on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 9 am to 2 pm. So if you are a resident or small business in Fayston, Moretown, Roxbury, Waitsfield, Warren or Waterbury and have household hazardous waste(HHW) like pool chemicals, mercury products, solvents, gasoline, oven and drain cleaners, adhesives and more you can bring up to 10 gallons of these wastes and all of your pesticides, architectural paint(oil and latex), primary batteries and all of your compact fluorescent lamps at no charge for proper disposal. After the first 10 gallons of liquid or 10 pounds of solid waste, there is a $4.00 per unit fee to cover the disposal cost. Duxbury is now a member of the Central Vermont Solid Waste District and residents should participate in their HHW Events. While you're at the HHW Collection you can visit the Paint Drop and Swap where folks can bring good cans of paint that they don't need and you can pick these up and use them for your painting tasks. You can also visit Waterbury True Value Hardware Store, Aubuchon's Hardware Store and Bisbee's Hardware Store in Waitsfield for recycling your architectural paints. There is no charge for this program. If you have any mercury thermostats they are eligible to receive a coupon valued at $5.00 that you can mail to the Thermostat Recycling Corporation. The cover must be on the thermostat to be eligible for the incentive fee. If you have a mercury fever thermometer, we will swap you for a digital thermometer at this event at no charge. Kinney's Drug and Variety and Waterbury Pharmacy will also accept mercury thermometers on a daily basis but you cannot swap for a digital thermometer at these stores. Small businesses should preregister by May 11, 2017 by contacting John Malter at 244-7373.
