Preview of April 17 City Council Meeting

Past event

Dear Neighbors,

This coming Monday, the City Council will convene its second of two meetings for the month of April. Prior to our Council meeting, we will have a joint work session with the Planning Commission on planBTV Downtown Code. Following this work session, we will hold a brief Local Control Commission meeting at 7pm in Contois Auditorium. The Council meeting will begin immediately after the Commission meeting.

The first item on our agenda will be an indoor entertainment permit for Mr. Mike’s Pizza. We will then vote on a resolution to enter into an agreement with Manhattan Pizza so they can maintain tables and chairs on a portion of the City’s right-of-way this summer.

Our deliberative agenda includes three resolutions. We will be voting to adopt the planBTV Walk Bike master plan during the next Municipal Development Readoption. This vision of planBTV Walk Bike is to rapidly transform into a place where Burlington’s streets are safe enough that parents let their kids walk or bike without worry; that older adults comfortably walk or bike to community destinations; that walking, biking, and taking the bus are the preferred choice for students and adults living or working in Burlington, all year round. The goal of planBTV Walk Bike are to create safer streets for everyone and make walking and biking a viable and enjoyable way to get around town.

The second resolution addresses the formation of an Inclusionary Zoning Working Group. Our last resolution Monday evening is regarding amending the composition of the Form-based Code Committee. We need to make a change to the Committee given the election of Richard Deane to the City Council so he can continue to serve on the Committee and lend his urban design expertise and experience to the Committee.

We expect to have three Executive Sessions following our deliberative agenda. The first is an update on Burlington Telecom, the second is on New Moran development agreement and the third is on the Burlington Town Center development agreement.

As with all Council meetings, please keep in mind that you are always welcome to come and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm. Clickable agenda items can be found on the City's website:
https://www.boarddocs.com/vt/burlingtonvt/Board.nsf/Public All Council meetings are televised live on BT Channel 317 and streamed live to your computer or phone.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please be in touch over the weekend and on Monday.

My best,
Karen
