The Healthcare Movie is a timely documentary produced by the Canadian/American couple Laurie Simons and Terry Sterrenberg. From their website: “The Healthcare Movie reveals the personal and emotional impact on Canadians who now have access to universal health care because of the heroism of people who took a stand nearly 50 years ago. It also reveals the continuing struggle in the United States between the fear of government intervention and the right to quality health care for all people.”
Anna Carey, MD was born in Baltimore and grew up along the East Coast before settling in Vermont in 1980. She taught high school and worked as a head baker prior to attending University of Vermont College of Medicine. She had two boys before completing her residency in Family Medicine in 1995. Since 1990 she has been a member of Physicians for a National Health Program. Upon completing her residency, she joined the Family Medicine Department at UVM and for fifteen years created and directed the Community Medicine and Prevention Programs of the department’s residency. She has done research on Residents’ Views on single payer healthcare as well as collaborative research on Adolescent Substance Abuse. Presently she supports proposed Vermont legislation bill S 53 to secure Universal Primary Care. Anna practices family medicine at a rural practice just under the peaks of Mount Mansfield in Cambridge, Vermont and lives in Burlington, VT.
The public is invited to attend and learn how this system will work to cover everyone in the US through the film and questions and answers with Dr. Anna Carey.
