Solar Power at the Deborah Rawson Memorial Library

On March 23rd at 7 p.m., the Jericho Energy Task Force will present Leonardo DiCaprio’s Catching the Sun at the Deborah Rawson Memorial Library. Following the film will be a discussion on solar panel siting by Building Science Consultant, Chris West.

Catching the Sun presents the theory that the growth of the renewable energy industry is as important for economic growth as it is for the health of the planet while dispelling the notion that solar energy is a liberal versus conservative issue. According to an economic study cited in the film, a transition to clean energy could add up to one million U.S. jobs by 2030. A report by The Solar Foundation lists Vermont as a national leader in the industry, ranking third for the number of solar jobs per capita. Between 2015 to 2016, solar jobs in Vermont grew by 29 percent, with an additional 400 solar jobs created in the state last year.

After the movie, Chris West will talk about the optimal placement for solar panels and provide moviegoers with information on how they can gauge the potential output of rooftop panels on their dwellings.

Catching the Sun is part of the winter movie series the Jericho Energy Task Force has offered every year since 2009. Refreshments will be served but this is a waste-free event so patrons are asked to bring their own bowls and mugs. For more information contact Larry Lamb at lblamb@hotmail.com.
