The League of Women Voters of Central Vermont invites you to join us at our upcoming event, Privacy What Do We Know About It. ACLU of Vermont Executive Director James Duff Lyall will share his insights on this complex topic.

Technology has changed the way we interact with the world around us. We have smart phones, connected health, smart homes, connected cars. We post photos, videos, conversations online for anyone to see. When we surf the internet, our online activities are tracked with every major website visited. We love our fitbit, apple watch, and other wearable devices for the ability to check our health and exercise, unaware that this stored information can be shared. Companies collect our information to build marketing databases. The government amasses enormous amounts of our personal data from conversations to habits and purchases for surveillance.

How do we manage our online identity? How do we balance the public's right to know with our right to privacy? What are the trade-offs between convenience and privacy? Security and privacy?
