Code for BTV Open Data Day Event

Burlington’s Code for America Brigade, ‘Code for BTV,’ is inviting the community to gather with us on March 4th in appreciation of the civic tech movement, data transparency, and what it can mean to the city, state, and country. March 4th is international Open Data Day, a celebration of how more and more data is being made available for anyone to work with to make their community better.

We are looking for community members to share brief ‘lightning presentations’ (i.e., 5-10 minute talks) over the course of an hour about projects they’ve worked on that use publicly available data. If you have worked on any projects that use open data, or that promote data transparency, for the civic good, we would love to have you present your work! Government projects, local non-profit projects, private projects - any projects that use open data, make data open, or collect open data, to help the world, are welcome. If you have an idea for an open data based project, and need help, let us know you want to come share that, and we’ll see if anyone wants to join your cause.

The presentation format is simple: you can choose to use a slide-deck or not, and you get up and talk about your work for 5-10 minutes (depending on how many people sign up to talk). Each presenter comes up and talks in rapid succession, so there is not really much of a break between talks… we’ll have any slides setup to show before the lightning talks start, so there won’t be time taken to get the slides going. We want to cram as many talks into 1 hour as possible.

The Code for BTV Open Data Day Social runs from 6-8pm at Big Heavy World, located inside the SEABA Center at 404 Pine Street. ‘Lightning Presentations’ will start at 6:30pm. The venue is wheelchair accessible. For more information: info@codeforbtv.org, (802) 373-2890, or www.codeforbtv.org

We know we appreciate your sharing, and we believe many others will want to hear your stories about working with open data, too. Hope to see you there!

Nick Floersch,
Code for BTV Co-Captain

PS please forward this to anyone you think should be sharing there story at the social! We want all sorts of open data stories!
