Money in Politics and What We Can Do About It

Are you angry and fed up with our current government? Do you struggle to make ends meet? Do you feel that our elected officials don't listen to you and your concerns? Did you vote for Trump to express your anger and frustration? Did you hope Bernie would get the nomination?

This course, offered by Bethel University, is premised upon the notion that the true object of our anger is the growing role of money and corporate interests in corrupting and controlling our Government and elected leaders.

The Supreme Court ruled in Citizens United that Corporations are persons entitled to constitutional rights and that money is speech. In the Hobby Lobby Case, for-profit corporations were recognized as persons with faith and religious rights. Together, these two cases represent the power of corporate wealth to manipulate government and buy politicians while the common folk struggle to make ends meet and just get by from day-to-day.

In the first of five sessions, we will take an in depth look at the history of corporations and their role and influence over our political and governing institutions. What are corporations? Why are they considered "persons" by our legal system? How did they become so powerful and unaccountable? Have corporate interests always been this powerful? Come to the first session of ""MONEY IN POLITICS AND WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT" and find out.
