Author Lisa Genova to Appear in Woodstock Jan. 17

Jan 17, 2025, 6:45 to 8 PM

In her acclaimed novel, Still Alice, author Lisa Genova used her signature "deep empathy and insight" (Booklist) to help readers understand the life of someone experiencing Alzheimer's disease. In a few weeks, she'll release a new novel, one that helps to makes the issues of bipolar disorder relatable.

On the first Friday after the release of More or Less Maddy, Lisa Genova will visit Woodstock and share her insights from this novel and her other work in conversation with Melodie Winawer, a neuroscientist and novelist. Their conversation will take place on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 6:45 pm, in the historic Town Hall Theatre in Woodstock, with a Q&A and book signing to follow. A free ticket is required for admission (https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/lisa-genova-event). The event is sponsored by Bookstock in partnership with The Yankee Bookshop and Pentangle Arts Council.

Acclaimed as the Oliver Sacks of fiction and the Michael Crichton of brain science, Lisa Genova is the New York Times bestselling author of Still Alice and many other novels, plus Remember: The Science of Memory and the Art of Forgetting. Lisa holds a PhD in neuroscience from Harvard University. She is featured in the documentary films To Not Fade Away and Have You Heard About Greg. Her TED talks on Alzheimer's disease and memory have been viewed more than eleven million times.

Melodie Winawer is physician-scientist and associate professor of neurology at Columbia University who has published more than seventy-five scientific articles. She's also the author of two novels, Anticipation and The Scribe of Siena and working on her third book, a dual-timeline novel set in modern and ancient Minoan Crete. Melodie lives with her spouse and their three children in Woodstock, Vermont.

More or Less Maddy is a breathless, riveting novel about NYU student Maddy Banks who is diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She rejects the stability and approval found in a traditionally "normal" life for a career in stand-up comedy and learns to live a fulfilling life.

On Thursday, January 16, Pentangle will screen Still Alice in Woodstock's Town Hall Theatre, beginning at 7:30 pm. The film, directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland and starring Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin, and Kristen Stewart, earned critical and popular acclaim, an Oscar for Julianne Moore, and two dozen other major awards. Tickets ($10) are required and can be purchased from the Bookstock website (https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/lisa-genova-event)
