Hi Neighbors, I wanted to invite you to come downtown this weekend, as there will be so many things going on, including Farmer's Market, a Onion River Sports costume race Ocktoberfest at Three Penny Taproom, not to mention Montpelier Alive's own events: third annual pumpkin carving contest and our pie sale fundraiser, in front of City Hall. A few details:

Montpelier Alive is organizing its third annual pumpkin carving contest in front of Montpelier City Hall this Saturday, October 26th from 11 to 1 pm. This year, we’ve invited the staff and students of New England Culinary Institute to join them for the event. NECI will set up at 10 am for a carving demonstration and offer advice for home carvers. The NECI crew, headed by Executive Chef Jean-Louis Gerin, will also serve as the judging panel for all entries. Judging is expected to take place at 1 pm. All participants are encouraged to bring their own tools from home, including normal household items.

CONTEST OVERVIEW:
• $2.00 entry fee per participant includes one pumpkin and one candle
• All participants must bring their own carving tools
• Judging in three categories: 10 and under, 11-15, and 16 and over
• Winners will be announced by 1 pm. Winners need not be present.
• All participants under the age of 16 years old must be accompanied by a parent
• Participants may take their pumpkins home following judging, pumpkins left behind will be composted.

This event is sponsored by Hunger Mountain Coop and pumpkin donations came from Settlement Farm, Dog River Farm, and Shaw's Supermarket. Prizes have been donated by local businesses.

PIE SALE STARTS AT 9 AM. If you are dropping off a pie donation, please do so by 9. They will sell until they are all gone! We have pies being donated from local businesses and community members. Thanks! We hope to see you downtown soon. -p
