Join us at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier, as Ted Levin discusses a six-year inquiry into the natural and not-so-natural history of the timber rattlesnake. Ted looks at the biology and the conservation efforts in New England, to protect timber rattlesnakes, as well as the misguided attemptsto destroy them or to take them home as a pet. “[A]s darkness congealed over the talus, barred owls and coyotes sent vespers across the river while the stuttering call of an eastern screech owl wafted over the rocks. In early October, if the temperature remains warm, homebound rattlesnakes stay on the talus; if the temperature falls, they go under, braided together like so many twists of licorice.
