What: A seed swap where we can all share what we have, and take we need. If you don't have seeds to share, don't despair! Come take other people's excess seeds, and give them a good life in the ground this summer so they don't end up in the compost.

When: This Saturday, January 20th, from 2-4pm.

Where: 430 West Street Middletown Springs, VT 05757
Luke and Sara of Green Mountain Timber Frames will host this event in their beautiful, spacious Reuben Waite Barn. They will provide soup, hot cider, and water for the event.

We will also have demonstrations on how to make your own seed packets, and how to save your own seeds from year to year if there is enough interest.

We'd be so happy for you to join us and share some wintertime wishes for the gardening season! It's forecast to be a cold day, but what better time to plan for spring?

For more info, feel free to call Richard Kniffin at 802-235-2620

The Burning Sun are alchemists of sound. With stamina that harnesses the energy of their namesake, this power quartet rotates instruments throughout their discography and live performances to create a panorama of unpredictable melodies, intricate rhythm changes and atmospheric tones.

Locals to Burlington, VT (unceded Abenaki territory), Katy Hellman, Steven LeBel, Bo Malcolm and Addie Herbert weave together their eclectic musical influences which include folk, psych rock, prog rock, punk and ancestral sounds. The group works in close collaboration writing and arranging all their music. What emerges reflects the deep wells from which they draw, deriving a signature sound from soaring vocals and evocative lyrics. https://www.theburningsun.com/

About the Reuben Waite Barn: The venue for this event is a pre-1800's hand hewn timber frame barn. In 2020 the Reuben Waite Barn was moved from its original location in Galway, NY to the shop property of Green Mountain Timber Frames in Middletown Springs. The Green Mountain Timber Frames crew carefully dismantled the structure taking care to label each beam, brace, and board. After restoring and washing the frame, it was erected once again on a stone foundation to live on as a space dedicated to community, the arts, traditional crafting, and the learning of hand tool woodworking. Barn Raising Open House | Wednesday, May 31 | 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Potluck Dinner & Open Music Jam | Thursday, June 1 | 6:00 p.m.

The team at Green Mountain Timber Frames is excited to announce that we will be erecting an historic blacksmith shop at our business location on West Street in Middletown Springs. The 1890's barn was originally built in Benson, Vermont, and was the smithy that primarily made and repaired parts for the L.B. Cook Spoke Factory and Saw Mill. We are honored to have been able to save the shop and re-erect it in Middletown Springs to serve as a place for the community to learn the traditional skills of blacksmithing.

Timber frame construction has always been about community – friends and neighbors coming together to help one another put up houses and barns. We want to honor that tradition by inviting our neighbors, friends and family for a two-day barn raising celebration.

The community is invited to an Open House on Wednesday, May 31 from 8:00 to 11:30 a.m. Luke will offer a barn raising blessing at 8:15 a.m. Stay to watch the crew assemble the 1890's blacksmith shop, enjoy coffee and pastries in the Rueben Wait Barn and check out the 80 foot McKie Barn that we put up last fall!

By Thursday, June 1, we should have the rafters and roof boards applied to the blacksmith shop. We look forward to ending the workday with a celebratory potluck dinner, music, and dancing! The gathering will start at 6:00 p.m. We will be grilling; please bring a dish to share, your beverage of choice, and an instrument to play.

Please contact sara@greenmountaintimberframes.com with questions. You can view more details at
http://www.greenmountaintimberframes.com/workshops-events

This project is being documented by a professional film crew. They will be filming the barn raising and the celebrations. You may be asked to sign a release form giving permission to be filmed and photographed. We also ask that you refrain from posting and sharing pictures of the project on social media, blogs, websites, etc. We are grateful for your support and cooperation.

This week the Green Mountain Timber Frames crew will be assembling an 80 foot barn at our shop location. This amazing timber frame was originally built in Cambridge, NY around 1830 by the McKie family to house sheep. We are thrilled to give it a new home in Middletown Springs where it will be re-erected on a dry laid stone foundation.

We invite the community to join us this Thursday, December 8 for a Barn Raising and Open House from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm. Watch the crew assemble the McKie Barn, and warm up in the Reuben Wait Barn with hot cider, coffee and donuts. Those that are able may join us at 7:45 am for a barn raising blessing.

Greetings from Green Mountain Timber Frames!

Here at GMTF, we care deeply about regenerative practices, and this extends well beyond our passion for saving and restoring old agricultural buildings. We strive to foster in our own lives an attentiveness to the wisdom and teachings of past generations who lived, worked, gardened, and farmed in the barns that we restore. We are inspired by people right in our own community doing amazing things and working incredibly hard to bring back a healthy connection between our food sources, the land, and our community.

In this spirit, we are extremely excited and privileged to welcome author, blogger, and podcaster Jade Miles to the Reuben Waite Barn for a conversation and book signing on Saturday, June 25th. We were introduced to Jade through a mutual friend, and we have been listening to the thoughtful and inspiring conversations on her podcast. We cannot believe our good fortune to welcome this work-know author to our very own woodworking shop- the 1780s Reuben Waite Barn!

Jade will discuss her latest book "Futuresteading: Live like tomorrow matters: Practical skills, recipes and rituals for a simpler life." Jade is visiting from Black Barn Farm in Victoria, Australia where she and her family tend an orchard and regenerative nursery business, and are committed to bringing celebration and awe back to food literacy as a first step in building a localized fair food system. Jade will sign copies of her book and folks are encouraged to bring a potluck dish to share as we dive deeper into conversation with Jade and our community.

We are excited to start the afternoon around our shop garden with a demonstration of fence riving technique. Luke will demonstrate the proper use of a froe, shaving horse, and draw knife as we work on a traditional country garden fence with hand tools. Who knows- we may even get to make a little progress on the much needed fence around our garden with your help!

4 pm: Riving Technique Demonstration
5 pm: Author talk with Jade Miles
6 pm: Potluck dinner and conversation on the concepts presented in "Futuresteading"

This is a free event. Books will be available for $32. Please RSVP to sara@greenmountatintimberframes.com

We hope you can join us!
