Vermonters have a rich practice of finding the divine in nature; in our trees, brooks, rivers, and in the awe of our magical seasons. The beauty of our state provides solace and a sense of belonging to something grander, all that is connected to what many would call the Divine.
As our world becomes increasingly more unpredictable, many are searching for a deeper understanding of how to live their lives meaningfully, wondering what their purpose is.
Spirituality is a hunger in our time. Many long to have different and deeper conversations that can open their heart and spirit to hear the inner voice within that reveals the divine. Whether we call it God, Spirit, the Source, Love, spirituality is about a relationship with something more expansive than we are, the source of all creation.
Spiritual direction in the Ignatian tradition, is a journey of recognizing the presence of the divine in our daily lives. Through monthly conversations between two companions, the spiritual director and the directee, we witness the unfolding of the awareness of the divine in our lives and discern the movement of God's spirit in our daily living. We utilize the teachings of Ignatian spirituality based on the life, work, and exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola who taught that the essence of spirituality is "finding God in all things".
"Spiritual direction is an opportunity to explore one's understanding of the divine, of self, of others, of life. It can help to ground you in your values and to be informed in your actions, decisions and your way forward. " (Pat Cassidy, Contemplating Spiritual Direction video)
