Vermont Conservation Voters (VCV), Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC) and the Vermont Planners Association (VPA) are seeking a Legislative Intern to help track forward-looking environmental legislation moving through the State House during the 2025 legislative session (January through May 2025).
Duties will include: Monitoring relevant State House hearings and reporting to VNRC, VCV and VPA staff on results of those hearings; Tracking the movements of, and changes made to, specific bills that VNRC, VCV and VPA are following; Possibly engaging with lawmakers; and Additional tasks, as assigned, which could include conducting basic research, drafting bill summaries, and developing talking points or other documents for VNRC, VCV and VPA staff to use to advance our issues in the Legislature
The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated interest in state-level policies and policy-making, strong oral and written communication skills, and be diplomatic, curious, and able to take initiative. Although flexible, the typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday for an average of 32 hours per week, starting on January 6, 2025 and ending in mid-May. The Legislative Intern is expected to split their time between the Vermont State House and our Montpelier office, but some work may be performed remotely.
Compensation is $17.50 per hour.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned and collaborative nonprofit leader familiar with electoral and legislative campaigns, environmental policy, environmental justice, and the Vermont political landscape. The position requires exceptional communication and relationship-building skills and a candidate that leads with vision and authenticity in a fast-paced and complex environment.
VCV works to elect environmentally-friendly candidates to public office and holds them accountable for the decisions they make affecting our air, water, wildlife, land, communities, and health. The Executive Director manages and coordinates all programs, generates organizational cohesion and sense of direction, keeps the Board of Directors informed and engaged, maintains and strengthens membership and development, and provides an articulate voice for VCV on all its core issues. The position also supports the work of our strategic partner, Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC).
