About the Role:
• Position: Therapeutic Advocate (T.A.) at Sheldon Academy
• Location: Rutland, VT 05701 (Relocation required)
• Pay: $15.75 - $16.00 per hour
• Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday to Friday 8am-4pm
Key Responsibilities:
• Implement behavior management strategies and classroom schedules.
• Develop, monitor, and record individualized behavior and educational goals.
• Provide behavioral interventions and support for various learning styles, ensuring crisis intervention and training.
• Communicate with students, parents, and LEAs; maintain behavioral and academic data.
• Assist with planning academic and recreational activities; support team collaboration.
Qualifications:
• High School Diploma required; B.S. or B.A. in Child Development or related field preferred, with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with behaviorally/emotionally disturbed children.
• Preferably 1 year of experience in behavioral health or educational support roles.
• Valid Vermont driver's license, insurance on file, and criminal background check.
• Strong communication, empathy, and organizational skills.
• Ability to handle physical and emotional challenges.

• Position: Special Education Teacher at Sheldon Academy

• Hours: Work 8-hour day shifts (Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm) for a 10-month position, following the school calendar for seasonal breaks and federal holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide direct instruction, in-class support for learning and social skills, and therapeutic support.
• Assess student abilities and monitor general education and IEP goal achievement, with minimal tri-annual evaluation responsibilities.
• Implement, edit, and consult on IEP plans; share case management responsibilities and prepare IEP progress reports.
• Collaborate with general educators to prepare report cards and attend student meetings as scheduled.
• Plan and implement curriculum based on Vermont State Standards, maintain organized materials and student records, and provide consultation on therapeutic and behavior support methods.
Qualifications:
• B.S. or B.A. in Education or Special Education (Master's preferred) with Vermont Special Education Licensure K-12 or eligibility.
• 3 years of teaching experience with behaviorally/emotionally disturbed children.
• Valid Vermont driver's license and strong communication, organizational, and basic computer skills.
• Proficient in special education law, IEPs, and assessments.
• Deep understanding of learning disabilities, emotional-behavioral issues, and skilled in relationship management, emergency response, adaptability, and team collaboration.
