General Summary:
A Content Area Teacher shall be responsible for the planning, implementing and evaluation of the instructional programs for the general education curriculum. This individual shall also provide behavior management and therapeutic support for all students as needed within their classroom setting.

Essential Functions:
• Provide direct instruction to students enrolled in one or more of VAC's educational programs. This position shall also provide behavior management and therapeutic support to the students within the classrooms they are instructing as outlined by their educational team. The content area will be determined by the Director of Education/ Program Director.
• Insure that a program of study is planned, implemented, and monitored that meets the educational needs, interests, and abilities of individual students while addressing mandated curriculum and/or IEP goals. This curriculum will be based upon the Vermont State standards and Grade expectations.
• Insure that thorough lesson plans are prepared, implemented and/or are available to the Administration Team for review or use in the absence of the teacher.
• Insure educational materials are organized, well maintained and kept in a safe location.
• Organize and accurately maintain a record-keeping system for documenting student progress.
• Prepare report cards and be available to attend any student meetings as requested by the classroom team or Administration.
• Share other instructional responsibilities as designated by the Director of Education/ Program Director
• Provide consultation to outside school districts/agencies as requested.
• A teacher must be able to show the ability to connect, respect, protect and educate a wide diversity of students in a wide variety of settings.

B.S. or B.A. in the field of subject matter hired to teach is required. Vermont teaching license preferred.
Two years teaching or related work experience in content area and with behavior disordered and/or emotionally disturbed children desired.

VAC continues to offer innovative and responsive programs in special education, early education and child care, as well as water safety and aqua therapy. The programs provided by VAC touch the lives of more than 7,000 children and families throughout our region each year.

We are seeking TWO qualified Lead Teachers to join our team.

About You
Responsible for the care of the children in classroom; maintain a safe, nurturing and clean play environment, assisting in planning and carrying out planned activities; communication with families about child's day.
Creates developmentally appropriate curriculum for all children to grow cognitively, socially and physically. Lesson plans are completed in advance and made available to EEC Director and parents. Activities are implemented effectively.
Advises EEC assistant teachers/substitutes and volunteers on daily plans and supervises on the implementation of such plans.
Maintains an orderly though active and fun environment while engaging with the children through conversation and play.
Maintains Licensing Regulations for the State of Vermont. Licensing renewal requirements are met.
Continuously ID's unfamiliar individuals picking up clients.
Maintains open and consistent communication with families and co-workers.
Updates parent boards monthly.
Provides Transitional Assistant, Program Director and Program Supervisor with monthly reports.
Creates an atmosphere of safety, caring and support for the children. Carries out discipline with a positive attitude.
Attends client meetings when necessary.
Positively represents the program to the community including licensing agents, parents, employers and the general public.
Maintains appropriate teacher/child ratios in the classroom.
Institutes an open-door policy for families, treats all families with respect.
Completes minimum amount of required training hours, per State of Vermont Regulations and Accreditation Standards
Reconciles issues with families in a positive manner, asking the Program Supervisor or Director for assistance when necessary.
Annually updates Individual Professional Development Plan, maintains current CPR/First Aid certifications.
Does not use cell phone when in the presence of clients and while on the clock.

Required Skills & Experience
Thorough understanding of child development, to include differing abilities. Required education is as follows: at least a Level III on the VT Early Childhood Career Ladder; or a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Early Childhood, Child or Human Development, Elementary Education or Child and Family Services and 12 months experience; or Certificate of Completion from the Apprenticeship Program; or Child Care Certificate from CCV and 12 months experience; or successful completion of 21 college credits with early childhood or school age focus and 12 months experience.

Skills
Ability to pick up and carry a 30-pound child.
Ability to change positions freely including up and down from the floor.
Ability to communicate professionally with staff, clients and the public.
Ability to maintain a safe and organized classroom environment that promotes learning, growth and socialization for children.
