About

The Underground Workshop is a collaborative community of high school and college student journalists from around Vermont. We focus our reporting on stories that affect students and are of statewide relevance. Having previous experience in journalism is not required to participate. While we hold ourselves to high quality and ethical standards, we also want to encourage and support beginning student journalists. In order to learn more about us and get involved, please check out our website.

Some of our participants started with no journalism experience, and some also write for their school newspapers. All experience levels are welcome! We challenge our writers to meet a high standard, but we also provide them with support throughout the process, from brainstorming story ideas through final edits, to make sure that it is accessible for all.

Our students have participated in programs like the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference and Northwestern University's Medill Cherubs summer journalism institute.

We meet online on Thursdays from 7-8 p.m. Email undergroundworkshopvt@gmail.com to get the link to join our meetings!

Do you want to try it out but don't want to commit right away? No problem! You're always welcome to join one of our regular meetings, or you can attend one of our upcoming educational workshops:

March 28: Interviewing Skills
May 2: AP Style
May 30: Photography
