The studio is surrounded by many perennial gardens and woods; participants are encouraged to engage with a frog in the small pond, the medley of colors arriving in this new season; a "poetry walk" happens many times during an afternoon; a time when "devoted attention" (Mary Oliver ) is practiced toward some aspect of nature.

For students who are not yet comfortable writing, Ann acts as a scribe for their "poetry words."

To witness what young people are capable of, see our book, Another World: Poetry and Art by Young People from The Poetry Studio with a foreword by Chard de Niord, former poet laureate of Vermont.
