Open air ice skating and hockey in downtown Waitsfield is almost here! It has been a busy few months at the SKATIUM and we thought we'd share about all of the things we've done to prepare for this season.

As you drive in Slow Rd you'll notice our awesome new signage, and if after dark, our beautiful new building lighting. As you drive closer you'll see the new flexible EZ Ice rink system we purchased.

This season we installed it as two separate rinks - one for hockey/stick n' puck and one for open skating/figure skating, which will provide a safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone. What you won't see is the defunct old compressor down by the rink which has been scrapped and recycled!

Entering the facility you will walk along our new decking and mats to our relocated and re-fitted office with a large space to put on your skates. If you need rentals, you'll get a brand new pair from our rental fleet sharpened by our awesome Sparx skate sharpener. Once you get on the ice enjoy skating along to music through our new sound system. When you need a break, make your way to our warming room where you'll find snacks and be able to make yourself a nice cup of hot chocolate, coffee, or tea.

We intend to be open weekends and holidays 12pm-10pm, staying open a little later than past years to provide the Valley a healthy and fun evening activity. Regarding opening - we are aiming to open this coming weekend, and keeping a watchful eye on the forecast and quality of ice given the warm spell coming through. Please check http://facebook.com/skatium on Friday for our expected hours of operation for the holiday weeks.

None of this would be possible without the generosity of our donors and the help of our volunteers. We are so grateful and excited for this season which should see significantly more days of skating!

Season passes and swag are now on sale at http://skatiumvt.org.
