MSHS is a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organization, founded in 1969 to create and maintain the Mineral Springs Park on Burdock Avenue. In 1971 MSHS acquired and began the ongoing restoration of the Adams House on the Green. Both sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Middletown Springs Historic District.

The mission of the Middletown Springs Historical Society is to engage the community in understanding and appreciating the changing history of Middletown Springs, and to encourage local historic preservation.

The MSHS Board of Trustees of MSHS meets monthly on behalf of the MSHS membership in pursuit of the MSHS mission. The Trustees maintain the historic sites and the Museum, which is open Sundays 2-4 pm from Memorial Day through October, and by appointment, and they oversee MSHS educational and fundraising events annually, including the Maple Festival, the Strawberry Festival, the Annual meeting and Museum Open House. Membership is open to all.
