"Mauritius" a crime thriller stage play written by Theresa Rebeck , directed by Monica Callan, for a three week run at Grange Hall Cultural Center, Waterbury Center, Vermont, November 8-24, 2024

When Jackie and Mary's mother dies after a long illness, leaving behind an inheritance of rare and valuable stamps, the estranged half-sisters reunite to determine the fate of the collection. To Jackie, the stamps represent the only possibility to overcome deep medical debt and her mother's lifetime of bad decisions. To Mary, they offer a chance to hang onto the only happy memory of the difficult childhood that she escaped (leaving Jackie behind to fend for herself). At odds, and in the pursuit to find a suitable buyer, the sisters enter a seedy world of philatelic subterfuge. Cast in a cloak of strategic suspense, this surprisingly comedic thriller is tightly paced with a dark center of deep set histories, both ancient and recent, that make each character choose between the value of what is owed and what is owned, and, ultimately, what to value.
