I teach guitar and bass lessons in Brattleboro, VT

I teach all ages, styles and levels. The only prerequisite is wanting to learn!

Beginners - Start learning the guitar in a holistic fashion that instantly allows you to play songs and express yourself. We will be addressing proper technique, chords and their relationships to scales and keys, while learning your favorite songs, riffs and licks. I have found this method hooks students on playing and practicing the guitar while simultaneously giving them the tools to develop their playing and understanding the fretboard.

Intermediate - We will work on theory, rhythm, scales and their applications, as well as improving technique and developing your voice on the instrument. If you are in a rut with your playing and always stuck repeating the same licks and phrases, I can bust you out. You will learn to improvise while targeting chord-tones and using diatonic harmony.

Advanced - Looking to clean up technique, build speed, or become a wizard at improvising? Learn advanced theory and how to navigate and play over complex chord changes. We can work on a variety of techniques that are intensely powerful in tackling extremely difficult passages and their implementation into your improvisation. You'll develop a tool chest of techniques and knowledge that will allow you to express yourself.

I have been playing guitar for 25 years. I've played with bands such as Witch (J. Mascis/King Tuff), Sasami Ashworth and Barishi. I have toured extensively in North America and Europe, both headlining and opening for everyone from Haim, Mitski and Japanese Breakfast to Mastodon . I have performed on KEXP, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, WXPN and at world-renowned musical festivals such as Levitation Fest, Desert Daze, SXSW and many more. My playing has appeared in Rolling Stone, The New York Times, NPR and Pitchfork to name a few.

I charge $60/hour, $35/half-hour.
