The Caledonia Food Co-op started in 2018 when a few friends gathered and began to explore the possibility of opening a new natural foods co-op in St. Johnsbury. The friends formed a board, incorporated, and began selling $100 shares to founding members who wanted to promote local farmers and a deep sense of community that showcases a growing and vibrant downtown St. Johnsbury.

5 years later, the co-op has over 1000 member-owners and aggressively fundraised to finalize the purchase of a prime location in downtown St. Johnsbury: The former Walgreens building located at 502 Railroad Street.

And the great news: we achieved our goal! As of April 10, 2024, we now own the building! Our next phase of fundraising will consist of turning our newly purchased "house" into a proper home for our community-owned store as we work to secure funding for renovation, equipment, and hiring employees starting with a General Manager.
